Whilst we're on the subject of Sterling, his performance deserves a mention too. The England international completed three dribbles - including going around Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton for the winner - and the 20-year-old was fouled three times too.
Emre Can came on at half-time for Kolo Toure and performed well in the Reds' back three. In half a game he made three tackles - top tacklers average around five per whole game - and also won five of his six aerial duels, including the only one won by a Red in the Liverpool penalty area.
I often commend Lucas for his tackling in these round ups, and whilst he did make the most by any player with six, on this occasion I also want to credit his aerial ability. He won six aerial duels, which was the most by any Liverpool player and crucially one of these saw him head the ball to Coutinho for his countryman to create the winning goal.
Garth Crooks lauded Ryan Shawcross' performance at Goodison in his 'Team Of The Week' column by noting that the Stoke centre-back had made a total of 11 interceptions, clearances and blocks. Perhaps Crooks should've paid closer attention to the action at Turf Moor, as Martin Skrtel made 20 of the same defensive actions to help Liverpool to keep the Clarets at bay.
Maybe I was harsh on Skrtel ?
