That was immensely satisfying given our previous 2 outings at Palace, and the fact we went a goal down. Proper team performance. Well in Reds.

Two short but sweet observations to finish off:
1) Dwight Gayle is a diving little shithouse
2) Robert Madley is a cunt

Loved it... Watching the replay on Vietnamese satellite now...

For a young lad Moreno is a hell of a find, great engine good pace good touch and doesn't mind getting stuck in. With games and as he learns and matures he will become one hell of a left back... As for Can... Fuck me he has got scary potential...
 
Watching the goals again (http://www.okgoals.com/match-highlights-1423855425---40), you've to question what Palace was doing with that free kick wall setup. They allowed Skrtel and Sturridge to position themselves beside each other in the wall. When Balotelli shot, Skrtel and Sturridge just stepped to each side and opened like castle doors welcoming an invading army. Speroni could've done better with the shot, but that was a horrendous piece of work by Palace.

Trying to live up to the club's name I guess - Crystal Palace with a fragile wall.

For such an inconsequential team I really fucking dislike them... I truly hope they drop.
 
Interesting bit from one of the journos over here that does the live coverage and commentary for the Premier League.
Apparantly Moreno plays a big part in creating a good atmosphere in the dressing room. A bit like Reina used to do.

Loads of banter and just being a very happy young lad. You could see it with the training ground vidoes and the celebration yesterday. Great harmony in this squad.

Sign a few belters this summer and we'll challenge for the league again.
 
By the way, isn't Speroni an absolute spit for Chopper Reid?

He was asked about his contribution this week, and he said he's done really well. He said it's been difficult for him because he came into a setup that wasn't fair to him, because we like to press and we play with pace, but he plays a different way. He said he's starting to learn and that "when" he works hard he's a big asset, because he's a top player.

It's hard to describe it on here, but he gave the impression that the move wasn't really his decision. He was also asked about this shift in formation, he said that 4411/the diamond had been successful for 18 months, but we had no pace or penetration in this side and things were going from bad to worse, so he had to work out a way of getting all of his technical players into the side together, to make up for the lack of potency and sharpness in attack. It was as though he was saying that he couldn't work Mario/Lambert into his side, certainly not without Sturridge available or the right level of attacking threat around them.

Pretty much what we've been saying all along really, but I thought it was a good honest interview.

I find it interesting that the BBC, & BT Sport, both pathetic compared to the BBC football reporting of my youth, get so much more out of players & managers than sky.

Sky are so interested in talking points & getting a player or manager to say what they want them to, that they rarely let them simply speak, or provoke genuine discussion by asking the right questions.

Bang on, it was alot more insightful in a few minutes, than those terrible interviews Sky do about half an hour after the game, trying to squeeze in as many potentially controversial questions as they can.

The little details were great, like talking about how they had worked on the freekicks, knowing that Palace keep a straight line, so if you have someone sharp enough to get straight in there after the kick is taken, you give yourself a chance to pounce on any loose call. It's basic stuff but it showed we'd done our homework on the minor details, and that's where alot of games like this are won or lost.

That's twice he's come on & looked pretty sharp. He's definitely lost a bit of weight & he's running with pace to chase the ball.
 
My lad saw Moreno in Nandos wearing gold trainers. I was half scared to post this double headed Ryan crime for fear he'd feint.

Yep, I'll admit to having that same idea too. Having Sturridge back has taken off a lot of pressure and scrutiny off the other strikers for now, so I'm wondering if that's also part of why he seems to play with a bit of spring now.

While it's tempting now to let him start a game to see if he can build on his contributions lately, I think that maybe we should just keep him on the bench for a while more, using him as an impact sub, until we see a string of consistently good performances from him and the player himself looks hungry to start a game.

Perhaps using him as a "game-changer" sub appeals more to his child-like psyche - the chance to be the hero tasked with doing something special to save the game/team. Or perhaps being introduced to play just 30 minutes allows him to focus his mind and use his energy and strength for that short period to more devastating effect on tired opponents run ragged by our mids/forwards before that. It's interesting that of the 3 goals and an assist (I don't know if he's been credited with that for the free kick) he's had all season, 3 of those have come when he's been introduced as a sub (Swansea - League Cup, Spurs - league, Palace - FA Cup). Maybe Rodgers has hit on a good formula now, with Sturridge doing the early damage, and then bringing on Balotelli to keep the pressure up or spice things up.

The next few games will tell us more if this is a flash in the pan, or if he's really turning things around. Might be hope in this transfer yet.
 
I have a feeling we'll see more of Balo as I think both him and Studge are both more suited to having a striker partner. This will mean more rotation for Sterling (who might also start some games up top with Studge), Coutinho and Lallana.

I havent been through this thread yet but I love how praciced the free kick was.

1. 2 players dive out of the wall
2. Mario just fucking smacks it low
3. 2 or 3 players at different angles are running in on the rebound.

That is straight off the training ground!

Watching Studge diving out of the wall cracks me up - he is shitting bricks!!
 
I've never been a fan of Mario, and never backed his signing.
For the first time, I have to say that over the last two games I thought he looked a different player.
He looked interested and smiling (happy?) for a change.
Will be great if he keeps improving and becomes an asset to the team.
