Definitely starting to find his rhythm and feet….hes what 22? Wow, compare him to Stevie at 22 and he’s doing just fine right now.I love him, I'll always hate Jurgen never got a chance to coach him for us.
Yep hard agree, Xabi is gonna take him to the next level in the Premier league.Definitely starting to find his rhythm and feet….hes what 22? Wow, compare him to Stevie at 22 and he’s doing just fine right now.
Consistency is building, I think we’ll see a player of the year contender next season.
I called Nunez in preseason.
I called Ryan last year in preseason as a 6.
I called Hugo was boss in preseason. (I still think he needs to bulk up and get stronger too)
I'm calling Wirtz. Quality player, but he needs to bulk up and get stronger - I think he will. The last 2 games will have been a massive wake up call for him, and he's got an intelligent team of people around him that will see this. I don't see him getting faster, but I do see him getting stronger and being able to ride tackles. Once he's able to do that, he will be getting us a lot of fouls (Grealish) or creating a lot of danger in/around opposition box (scoring/assisting/key passes). Right now, his lack of pace/strength hasn't earned him the right to show his technique.
We also need to utilise him better between the lines. Our defenders and midfielders are failing to pass him the ball early enough or with the right timing. Like it or not, but I see him having an average first half to the season, and a strong end to it.
He's now shooting more too. The next step is for him to start affecting games away from home. Once that starts to happen, the league is on notice.Flo needs to look at Bruno as an example of a diminutive player who has a big effect on games.
He's much better at 22 than Bruno was at 22, which gives me great hope.
But he needs to start showing some courage on the ball. Take risk. Shoot. He passed up at least 3 very presentable opportunities to shoot against Bournemouth.
I look at his attributes, and he's def got the raw characteristics to succeed in the PL, in a big way. This is no Lazar Markovic, but I really want to see him step up between now and the end of the season.
At the start of the season, he was getting brushed off the ball. Now, he's not. Then he was finding it hard to get space. Now, he's finding the pockets and the space to be able to shoot/assist. We need him to start shooting more in/around the box. He's getting better, but for his ability, I really expected a 10-15G/10-15A minimum PL season.
Eh? He clearly was too lightweight and has hit the gym and bulked up.Wirtz making all those fans who commented they thought he was too lightweight, only flourished in the BL because it's poor man's PL, and was a waste of money, look complete dolts.
There's only so much muscle mass a professional football player playing at the highest level can gain during the season, due to games and general training. It has to be in the off season for proper transformation (if we're talking about doing it in a short amount of time).Eh? He clearly was too lightweight and has hit the gym and bulked up.
He also has a long way to go to justify 120m but is on the way.
Actually very few players realise their potential or maintain a high standard year after year. See Fowler, Owen, Torres, Hazard, Ozil, Sterling etc. It’s one of the reasons Salah is so exceptional. There's only so much muscle mass a professional football player playing at the highest level can gain during the season, due to games and general training. So while he has been bulking up a bit, it's far more likely that his massive upturn in form has more to do with him, at 22, getting used to his new surroundings, team mates, PL football speed/rhythm and physicality, and gaining his confidence back. All in 4 months.
This kid is an absolute gem who's only going to keep getting better.
Signing Wirtz was far less of a risk than re-signing a 33 year-old winger that relied on his pace throughout his career, for 300K per week.
On the whole strength thing, I took a Geordie to the match yesterday and he said after the game that he was surprised how strong Wirtz was. I guess if we can forget the first few months where he was working his arse off to get to this standard and judge him on his own merits now, there is no problem. The amount of times he gets clattered and wins nothing from refs is nuts. Every one of those challenges last night would have had Macca playing dead for five minutes.

What do reckon he's put on? 1kg? 2?Eh? He clearly was too lightweight and has hit the gym and bulked up.

I've figured it out. You like players on downward curves but are suspicious of people on upward curves. I was gonna ask if you were considering these graphs upsidedown but then I remembered where you live and it all makes sense
