Gettin’ Guehi with it

The latest update from the Bayern Space account is that representatives of Adam Wharton have told Bayern that there is already a personal agreement in place with a Premier League team. This is the same guy who broke the Wirtz to Liverpool story before it went mainstream.

Max Eberl recently travelled to Manchester to meet James Featherstone of Omnisports, the agent of Adam Wharton. Vincent Kompany has long admired the Crystal Palace midfielder, and inside Bayern he was considered a possible successor in midfield and a dream target with Leon Goretzka’s contract running down.

Bayern’s head of sport Max Eberl went as far as to present contractual terms, while Christoph Freund turned to his close friend Oliver Glasner, Wharton’s manager, who offered nothing but glowing praise for the player yet made it clear he did not want him to leave Crystal Palace. Bayern’s pitch was prepared carefully, but the outcome was already decided. Despite their efforts, no personal meeting with the player was granted, as the agency’s message remained firm. Adam Wharton currently does not favour a move to Germany and is already in personal agreement with another Premier League club. The club’s name was not disclosed to Bayern, but the message was that only Real Madrid or Barcelona could tempt him away from England.

The result is that Bayern’s leadership returned from Manchester with nothing more than polite rejection. The pattern is becoming undeniable, as England’s brightest talents look only to the Premier League or Spain’s giants, while Bayern’s name, once enough to command attention, now struggles even to enter the conversation.

Wasn't a question of that. When they didn't get a second new CB through the door, Glasner dug his heels in and the deal was off regardless.

Oliver Glasner has revealed the Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guéhi, has told the club he does not want to sign a new contract and will leave next year.

The England defender’s deal expires at the end of the season and it is understood that Guéhi has rejected all attempts to persuade him to prolong his stay in south London after leading Palace to their FA Cup triumph in May.
