Ian Rush would like a word.Goal contributions for individual players is something losers talk about.
If we win titles, I don't give a fuck about any one player's G&A's.
Right now, we're winning matches, so for me, the same applies really.

lol Coutinho came for 8M and people questioned it at the time. You cannot compare him with Wirtz.Ok so
David Silva 1 goal 3 assists in first 10
Little Phil 2 goals 4 assists in first 10
Eden Hazard 2 goals and 7 assists in first 10
Bernardo Silva 1 goal and 1 assist in first 10
By these metrics, Florian is a wee bit behind where other similar players might be (it’s an imperfect comparison I’m sure).
It’s fair to say the data suggests he might be underperforming compared to other similar new arrivals. But he’s only played 5 in te PL so far.

Was David Silva a record transfer at the time? Did city change their entire system to accommodate him? Was he instrumental is them lifting 4 PL titles?
You need to look at the reported price and double it for the actual price.I can't exactly remember when Silva signed but he was very expensive for the time. Not a record but very significant.
Anyone else notice the goalposts mysteriously moving by themselves? If Wirtz puts up Salah numbers over the next 10 seasons and drives us to winning multiple league and CL titles then he’ll be a success. Anything less and he won’t have justified the insane price we paid for a 22 year old from a farmers league.
I sincerely hope he does that but so far the guarantees his fans gave us before signing him seem shaky at best!
Sanchez and Mane aside (and Wirtz isn't a striker or even a forward) those returns are all on the low side.Their first season
- David Silva (Man City, 2010–11): 4 goals, 7 assists.
- Juan Mata (Chelsea, 2011–12): 6 goals, 13 assists.
- Mesut Özil (Arsenal, 2013–14): 5 goals, 7 assists.
- Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal, 2014–15): 16 goals, 8 assists.
- Kevin De Bruyne (Man City, 2015–16): 7 goals, 7 assists.
- Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool, 2013–14): 5 goals, 6 assists.
- Christian Eriksen (Tottenham, 2013–14): 7 goals, 6 assists.
- Sadio Mané (Southampton, 2014–15) — used as an attacking wide-mid example: 11 goals, 3 assists.

I’m not arsed about goals and assists, I want to see him do boss stuff to justify the outlay which results in us winning shiny things.
He’s been rubbish and our shape looks meh because of it.
Hang in there Steve. Are you saying you married that Dutch “performer” I seen in Amsterdam circa 2002?????That’s basically arguing that “I don’t care what she looks like or whether she shags me - as long as I can get off watching her shoot ping-pong balls out her vag - at the minute she not and my cock is flaccid and out of shape!!”
This is exactly what I mean - there is no point engaging with Dreamie over this because, no matter matter what Wirtz does, Dreamie will always retreat to another position that seemingly supports his argument.
You can see right there what his position clearly is - because Wirtz has cost a record amount he has to deliver record numbers and even then Dreamie will argue that never before seen numbers and performances would be the minimum he’d have expected.
Every little point can be batted away with “yeah but he didn’t cost as much as Wirtz”.
Guaranteed when someone else signs someone else more expensive it’ll be “yeah but at the time Wirtz was the most expensive”.
I’ll say again - what’s your actual measure of success, Dreamie and if you don’t have or want to set a reasonable one, that’s fine, then we know this isn’t a discussion, it’s just another circular self-fulfilling position for you to troll from and amuse yourself.
So you’re saying Dreamie is a troll we should ignore?
I'm saying you should ignore him. We already do.
I have just decided to laugh at everything he writes, because it is consistently absurd. It is even better than ignore in this case.Yeah - I should - that was one of my points.
Things is - I’m too nice - it’s a forum for debate and I like interacting with people, challenging and being challenged with the probably naive expectation that people want to do the same and that minds can be changed if evidence supports or situations change.
You asked for my metrics, I provided them. Couldn’t give a hoot if you like them or not. It was and is a huge amount for an unproven player outside of his domestic second rate league. This is exactly what I mean - there is no point engaging with Dreamie over this because, no matter matter what Wirtz does, Dreamie will always retreat to another position that seemingly supports his argument.

What metrics are you talking about - I haven’t seen any?
Completely different animal playing in England as he’s learning. He won the German league and cup at 21 and was the player of the season for both club and league. He reached the Europa cup finals and was the Europa young player of the year. He was German footballer of the year 2025. Amongst other accolades.
Unproven?
We are still talking about Wirtz and not Ben Doaks right?
Would be a decent point if true. I didn’t rate Robertson at all, didn’t like the signing and thought he was rubbish. He’s been an outstanding signing and I was one of a few who didn’t want him to leave in the summer.Don't waste your energy, folks. The pattern's always the same with Dreamy - rushes to judgment about something far too quickly based on little or no evidence, gets called out on it and doubles down on his original position, like the Black Knight in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" having his arms and legs chopped off and insisting "It's only a flesh wound".
For a record signing in his position very rationale."If Wirtz puts up Salah numbers over the next 10 seasons and drives us to winning multiple league and CL titles then he’ll be a success. Anything less and he won’t have justified the insane price we paid for a 22 year old from a farmers league."
Totally rational metrics.

I preferred Mane over Salah for a long time too btw but Salah’s longevity at the top completely changed my view there.
I can and have changed my mind heaps of times but sure peddle that narrative.
