Florian and the (Slot) Machine

Was asking the same question but about Ekitike the other day. Too lazy to @grok it obv but it seems it all went to shit when Isak entered the picture

Arsenal at home is the only game this season when Wirtz was on the pitch when we scored a winning goal.
To counter that though, how often was he on the pitch when we conceded equalisers? The last minute winner thing kinda fucks up using goals as a metric with our batshit style of play.

It works both ways, and obviously part of the reason for my stat is that he hasn’t had the stamina to last 90 minutes. But what is relevant is that he was bought to help us unlock defences and he hasn’t been doing it, and as a team we’ve basically done it without him when we’ve won. I’m desperate for him to succeed, and I’m desperately disappointed that he hasn’t done so far.

Yeah I'm not overly defending him, more devil's advocate.

He should be influencing games a fuck ton more, but at the very least I've noticed when he doesn't play (or Ekitike doesn't start) we've got no one in-between the lines and we look bereft of creativity. Szob is great but that's not his wheelhouse.

I suppose he's kind of doing what thiago did; the pre-assist. Granted, that's another borderline made up stat, but it's also what Trent did (but with added assists)

This system doesn't work for us with 3 languid forwards, but we at least need someone who in theory can play the killer pass

He's underwhelming, but he's one of the few who can do it

Wirtz has done enough to register a few assists. Our finishing has been dreadful all season, including his, but the over-the-top memes and the whole 007, 008, 009 nonsense are just as tiresome. The metric showing he’s created the most chances clearly includes ones that shouldn’t really count. I’ve seen the compilation, and only two or three looked like genuine, high-quality chances that should have been taken.

We did look better for him being on the pitch on Saturday, but he had 4 of 5 other attackers on the pitch with him, so there's also an option. I'm not reading you much into it. We need more impacting performances in our starting team and structure, be it 10 or off the flanks. Personally, I'd be rotating him at LW now.

Basically we won all our league games he started and lost the ones he didn't?

Small sample and fine margins with the late goals I know, but good enough to fit my agenda

Isn’t it his top attribute connecting players?
Certainly one of them but when others aren’t used to where he’s going be or where he’s going to send passes or when they receive them and do nothing with them, it nullifies his stats.

Players struggle without a pre season. He’s completely new to the team. Same kinda thing but worse. In a team that’s misfiring all over the field.

Few players have covered themselves in glory, but he and isak will be easier targets due to what we paid for them.

I dunno. I don't think the players are shite. I think it's the coaching. We haven't known what to do with a low block for a year, and we've thrown loads of different players at it
Tactically I agree, but that doesn't stop players being unable to trap a ball or beat a man. A lot of our consistent performers over the years look completely unable to do the simples

We're in the uncomfortable position of players failing the basics and the manager failing to adapt tactics to a changing squad

In a nutshell. And this not only makes Wirtz look bad it makes all of them look poor too. It's that final messed up trap - with the ball going out of play, pass to the opposition or straight out of play (VvD x2 in the last two games WTF!), shot well wide, moment of loss of control allowing a tackle and we lose possession, that's done my head in the past month or so.

It's not one player it's most of them. Of course certain players are worse (Salah, Macca, Konate, Gakpo) but it's an inexplicable pandemic.

He's got 3 assists in Europe now.

It's the PL where we want to see those G/A that he would already have if out forwards hadn't sucked balls.
Aren’t you one to say Mo’s assist to Rio wasn’t one? It’s hard to give Flo that one for Slobby.
