It’s hard to describe why Joey Jones was such an integral part of our glory days in the 70’s and 80’s especially as he played fewer than 100 games for us. I suppose the nearest modern day equivalent would be Tsimikas (and this has nothing to do with both being left backs). Jones understood the whole Liverpool philosophy/ethos/spirit. He played every game as if it was his last and also as if it was his most important. He wasn’t a great footballer but he was a great player for us because (like Tsimikas) he knew what it took to be a Liverpool player and he never let us down.
