Isakly what we need

There really hasn't been any indication that Newcastle have found another alternative after Sesko, has there? I think they may have given up.

The question is, will Wissa be enough for them? On the one hand Isak will probably settle back down and play for them if they refuse to sell. On the other, they'll still be facing this issue again next summer, so what do they really gain in the long run. They're still ultimately going to have to sign some replacement from a similar pool of players.

I think it'll PROBABLY get done, but I wouldn't bet on it anymore.

It does appear that he has retained the No 14 and that he would have inherited the Iconic 9 after Wilson left but for the current circumstances.

Isak seems pretty relaxed about the whole situation.

I’m more interested in the “AT LEAST one more forward” line from Slot.

We either know this is getting done by end of window, or maybe it turns into a Virgil scenario and he signing in January - that could work because Ekitike would fill the central role - but then we’re definitely short of another forward who can cover the wide areas.

Signing someone else would likely allow us to get the likes of Doak out on loan - feels like there’s going to be a few loan moves yet to be finalised.

Also… do we reach the point of walking away entirely from the Isak deal because we need to move on and get another forward in?

I THINK it gets done when Wissa signs so hopefully it doesn't come to that. That's what I've suspected for a week or so now, and now the press have started hinting at that as well. God knows what we do if we can't get him. I'm not sure how we have time to go for someone else.

I don't think we want another winger because of Rio. And another striker would just be such a stopgap you kind of wonder what the point would be.

Maybe just tough it out until January?

I could def see Isak transfer waiting until January if Newcastle can't get their business done in time to their satisfaction.

Not ideal, but okay. He can play himself back to form and fitness for them, after missing preseason, instead of with us.

That wouldn't be so bad if it actually happened in January, but you just know the talk would then be how it's so hard to buy in that window and it's only another few months so let's just wait for next summer etc.

If we play a whole season with 3 senior forwards we're just asking for trouble. Personally I'll be pretty gutted if it doesn't happen this summer.

For me if it doesn't happen in the summer it shouldn't happen. We need to move on if we've not heard by the end of next week.

I want to be annoyed at LFC over our cockiness at signing Ekitike and preventing Newcastle getting their Isak replacement and how we deserve what we get, but tbf Ekitike has looked brilliant so far so that doesn't really work anymore.

I honestly don't know what the alternative would even be now. Barcola and maybe a young backup striker could make sense, but doesn't sound like PSG would sell anyway. Plus there's the Rio factor.

Like I said, I think it gets done when Wissa signs - fucking hope so anyway.

I don't think we were particularly arrogant with the Ekitike stuff (even before he kicked a ball for us). We'd been linked for months, and Newcastle said Isak wasn't for sale, so we went for our top target. We probably hoped Isak would pipe up earlier, but he didn't, so we probably went for managing the risk. Then things changed.

I'm similar to you in that I've no clue who would be an option. Maybe rodrygo? But then we're very short of a 9, so then we need an option there.

I do think Isak gets done, but it's frustrating that it's taken til season start.

In that situation I guess it would depend on how we're doing in the PL and CL and what fee could be agreed.

However 99% it's done this window.

I wasn't saying we were arrogant over Ektike, I meant it'd be neat and tidy for me to be able to believe that cos I'd have something to blame. I'm not sure wtf happened there. I really REALLY struggle to believe we didn't know Isak's intentions. That just seems mad to me. I think we always wanted both. But then apparently we went to Newcastle and effectively offered to back off if they gave us Isak? I dunno, it all seems very odd to me. I guess maybe they thought it was at least worth exploring as a trade off. And then when Newcastle rebuffed it Isak was given the go ahead to start making a fuss.

I just can't believe it was all unconnected. No way Isak just wakes up one morning and decides he wants to leave without knowing if anyone wants him, and then we remember we want to sign him but oops just signed Ekitike oh well never mind what's another £120m no problem.

My guess is the following: I think we've enquired, they've said no, so we went "ok" and bought Ekitike. Isak then got fucked off as it wasn't discussed with him, as he thought they had a gentleman's agreement and we came in with a substantial offer. So he's kicked off. That's made us reassess and think we could get both
