If he goes over money that's a shame but it suggests to me we have a replacement lined up. Otherwise we'd just pay him more wouldn't we?

I love Alonso but he's surely coming to the end of his career and swapping him for Meireles, who's younger and also very good, seems to be contrary to the FSG business approach. I also can't imagine Alonso needing les money per week than Meireles is asking for.

Theres nothing anywhere about meireles in a swap for alonso. Theres a few bluffers on twitter saying it'll be Gerrard and 15 million for alonso. Fucking silly season is reaching fever point!

He was our best player last season. If we sell him we're going backwards. I don't care how much people offer for him, I'm not arsed about the finances, I'm arsed about having as good a squad as possible. Unless we're about to buy the Barca midfield losing him would be stupid.

I like Raul, the only way I would see us selling him is if a club who has a player we want fancies him as part of a deal. Someone did mention Valencia somewhere..

If we sell Meireles it will be a key indicator in what our board are here for.
That is selling one of our best players for a profit while he is still profitable and investing only in assets we believe will bring a profit in future.

Thats 78m and we have recouped 50m.
Carroll and Suarez only need to sell for 28m to be profitable.
So next year we sell Suarez for 35m and buy Sturridge for 20m.
