I simply LOVE watching this guy play. He has it all. We have so many great players in our team now (I'd say 8) ! Thunderbirds are Go !

Performance vs Spurs

Minutes - 90
Touches - 111
91 - Passes
85% - Accurate Passes
2 - Chances Created
2 - Key Passes
7 - Long Balls
8 - Duels Won
3 - Interceptions
4 - Tackles
11 - Recoveries

From about ⅓ way in onwards he is absolutely immaculate. Doesn't put a single foot wrong.

Highlights from Monaco days (so so similar to yesterday)

N.B. I just pray Klopp doesn't play him vs Villa.

N.B. 2 It seems he was Monaco's penalty taker and had a near 100% record ? Step aside Mo !

I’ve seen him play for Monaco and while his dominance in 1 on 1 duels and eye for a pass have been apparent, he sometimes dallied on the ball and slowed the game down too much for my liking. Nor was he anywhere close to being as aggressive in winning the ball high up the pitch as he is now. Klopp really improved him in every way except goal-scoring.

One underrated aspect of his game which is maybe not so consequential, but I like to point out anyway is: he PASSES THE BALL WITH HIS HEAD! By “pass” I mean he controls pace, spin and direction rather than deflects the ball into some general area where it may or may not fall to another red shirt. If we ever need an emergency center-forward to lump the ball to, he would be the one player I would stick up front.

I've never seen him play for Monaco but a Real Madrid supporter, who usually knows his stuff, and who supposedly watched Monaco a fair bit said this (which doesn't contradict you but maybe he already had the full skill set and Klopp has just improved him even more) :

I mean, he was the engine of the Monaco side that won the league with 95 points and reached a CL semi-final. In which he was one of only two monaco players who looked like they belonged at that level against juventus btw

That side then lost Mbappé, Lemar, Bernardo, Bakayoko and Mendy -literally half their outfield starters- and went on to finish second in the league with 80 points. Then they sold him....and completely fell apart.

BTW since we're on the topic of great DMs, Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey is ridiculously good.

Well we certainly needed one on Sunday against Spurs!!!

I'm trying to think which past great player does Fabs resemble the most.

Viera ? Not really. Viera scores goals and drives the team forwards.
Keane ? Again nope. Keane scores goals.
Makelele ? Kante ? Deschamps ?

Maybe Fabs is his own legend in the making and doesn't resemble anyone. In future, perhaps we will use Fabs as the yardstick to which all young proteges will be compared to.

You have to mix a few players to get a Fabinho but the closest is maybe a younger Sergio Busquets?

He’s got a bit of the mo sissoko telescopic legs / everywhere on the pitchness but with a Brazilians ability.

Brazil has a rich tradition of defensive midfielders, no-nonsense "midfield generals" who allow their creative players to express themselves, players like Gilberto Silva, Mauro Silva, Dunga, Casemiro, Fernandinho etc. Fabinho fits perfectly into this tradition, but with an added twist of playing in Klopp's system that requires him to tackle higher on the pitch as a key part of the team's high press than almost any of his predecessors. So he's a bit like Xabi Alonso and Momo Sissoko rolled into one: someone sitting deep and spraying passes around with calmness and authority, while also frenetically tackling anything that moves and using his telescopically long legs to suck up any loose ball. Oh, and he can also take players on and dribble and run with the ball, which very few DMs can. Frankly it's ridiculous, ridiculously good.

His mentality is perfect too. He's never gotten a second yellow iirc and he sometimes gets his first yellow as a statement to the other team. Colossus.
