Dear Florian,

I don't want to write this. I would like to tell the world that you will stay at Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the rest of your career. But you decided to leave our club and to open a new chapter in your life. Of course, I totally respect that. We not only lose one of the best players in the world, we lose a special person.

When I first met you, it wasn't just your skills that stood out. Even if what you do with the ball still leaves me speechless. What really impressed me was your mindset. Your will to win. The hunger to score, no matter the scoreline. That constant drive to get better, even in the smallest details. And your environment with your parents always at your side, supporting you while also keeping you grounded.

You never lost that hunger. If anything, your mindset grew stronger after your ACL injury. We spoke during that tough time, and I could feel your frustration to not being able to have a ball on your feet. But also how determined you were to come back even stronger.

That attitude made you a leader. Quiet, focused, driven. More experienced players look up to you. You're a superstar for quite some time but you've stayed the same Flo. Like in that title-deciding match against Bremen. It had to be you with that hat-trick. Even when the fans were already on the pitch, you had to score again.

You once told me you'd never scored a hat-trick before, and that's why you went for it. Simple as that. And you surely remember when we were in Marseille and I told you that you could have the shirt number 10. You were very happy and proud, The photo shows us a few minutes later and you're still glowing out of happiness. It tells a lot about you.

I wish you all the best at Liverpool Football Club. I know, you will make your way there and I hope you will win many matches and titles. Maybe not, when we face each other.

Thank you, Flo, for your time under the cross and for being who you are. And also huge thanks to your family who have been with us so often. To your parents for always being open in all conversation and for being respectful and humble. We know each other for many many years and the trust and bond between us is strong and unusual in the football business. You all will stay part of the Bayer 04 family.

Stay tuned,
Simon

Hard to not be giddy about this even with the fee for our club when we just don’t spend this kind of money.

Get a quality striker now and we are set.

Let’s just hope they all gel and the rest don’t suffer from complacency after winning the league.

Been 40 odd years since we won back to back titles and nobody bar City has done it in nearly 20 years.

I'm unconvinced by Sesko.

Him and Ekitike played in the same league last season. Ekitike made the squad of the season (and helped his team to 3rd), Sesko did not (missed out on Europe completely).

Sesko is like a Haaland-lite.
Ekitike is like an Isak-lite.

I prefer Ekitike because I feel like an Isak-lite is still a good footballer when they are not scoring. Whereas as Haaland-lite not scoring is a clunky footballer. We have ballers and primary goalscorers in our team already (Salah, Wirtz and Gakpo/Diaz). We don't need an out-and-out goalscorer (25G, 5A). We need a good all round CF, who links well with our attackers and both scores and assists (G15, A15)... plus works his ass off in the press up front.

Good post and I don't disagree with all of it, but I do disagree with the conclusions you draw from what you set out, for a variety of reasons:

1. From the goalscorers list given above I see only Salah as a primary goalscorer, plus it remains to be seen to what extent he'll stay in that category as the years go by;

2. Sesko to me is no mere "Haaland-lite". There's already more to his game than that and, being a year younger than Ekitike, he should have even more room to raise his ceiling;

3. Fair play on the "squad of the season" info, which I didn't know about, but that will have been at least partly due to Ekitike having better teammates than Sesko's around him, not just to their respective individual qualities.

This signing definitely has a Torres feel to it. Universal appreciation and excitement towards a signing.

I've always wanted our version of Hazard. Coutinho had some amazing moments but this Wirtz lad seems to be Coutinho on steroids.

We are so back. Back to back titles incoming.

This is what you want written about you by the club you are leaving.

Still amazed how well these European players speak English so well..,
It’s not end of June and our big targets signed. Brilliant. Wonder how much of it is related Wirtz decision to us was related to Frimpong.
It’s great we are keeping Virgil and Mo, obvious in their own way they are a driving force off the pitch in setting standards and expectations of a LFC player.

Fair points.

I don't think either would be a bad signing (depending on price).

I just think Ekitike is currently the better all-round footballer, from what I've seen. Maybe Sesko has a higher ceiling when it comes to goalscoring though.

Swap Ekitike, who doesn't convince me (especially at the kind of fee being quoted), for Sesko and I'd agree with all of that.
Don't want either of them TBH. Not convinced by either. There's a real paucity of options. Maybe we should have gone for Delap as a stop gap.

I get the feeling that the new recruits will spur the rest of the team on. I can't wait for the new season to start!

Especially if I can get a ticket to the Charity Shield!

Do we not think a player who scored goals when in a 2 with marmoush, then continued to score goals as a loan striker is worth a go?

Despite rating Sesko more highly, I'd take Ekitike if he were available for a cut price. The fee they're likely to set is too rich for my blood though.
