The past can be used to a degree but the parameters have to be current manager, team, sporting director and tactics.
The player part is individual and is nearly impossible to compare. But Wirtz has the correct attitude, skills, work rate and suitability to our team/tactics and desire to succeed. Can’t ask for much more.

I quite liked Albert Riera.

Initially with Riera I thought "We might have got ourselves a player here", but he tailed off before too long and was typical of far too many of the signings we were making in those days - a "near enough is good enough" player who, er, wasn't in the end.
Fimpong looks and sounds like the most meme-able footballer we’ve had since the days of Divock and Bobby. He will produce classic quotes.
