Florian and the (Slot) Machine

I’m not sure if it’s introversion or just a very very cool and calm mindset. I’d rather that than rash and overly fiery.
Either way, I like him, and I’ve no doubt he will come good.

Whatever it is, he's pretty boring. It doesn't help his cause.

Wirtz has been shit, but he's new to the league and only 22 years old.
He needs to learn that the Prem is a whole lot quicker than the Bundesliga. He won't have the luxury of time and space playing behind the striker.

Still think he's just trying to get a hang of this league. Took Gravy a season to look the way he does now.
We'll start seeing the best of him soon, would be easier if he could get a goal or an assist.

Agree but even taking the 116m fee away for a minute, he’s not looking physical good enough to dominate as he did in Germany.

Hopefully he can adapt.

He has the drive, and apparently the personality according to ex-teammates and bosses, to put that effort into being the best.
Hope he can get that confidence and swagger back. He's shown he has the skills. Just needs to show he has the balls.
My glass is half full with him. I think he'll become a star for us, with time.

It's always tougher to strengthen from a position of strength, especially in the forward areas. That's why all 3 of our attacking players have costed us so much in transfer fees. I am not concerned about the money because it is the market you pay for top players these days. We could afford it, so be it.

Wirtz is playing in a position that nobody in the team has managed to lock down so far. The one who came closest would be Bobby albeit in a false 9? It is a difficult position to play. None of our rivals have any good 10s. Slot has been trying to play with a 10 ever since he arrived and if Wirtz is the player he has identified for the role, that's good enough for me. The constant moaning after every match played when he hadn't played like prime maradona is getting tiresome very quickly.

We are only 5 games in!

I think Wirtz has all of the attributes to success for us, the biggest challenge will be ensuring our shape & balance can work but I think that's getting better each game that goes by.

Ignoring Saints (as it would be a travesty if we played him in that IMO. Just let the lad recharge for the run of games after.) we have a nice run of games with opponents who I think are more geared towards leaving space and playing expansively (after Palace!).

Palace (bonus here that he's played them before so knows who he's up against)
Galatasaray
Chelsea - at the bridge but besides Caideco he could find gaps around full backs and CM
Man United at home - would love to see him be a match winner here
Brentford
Villa

Perfect run of games to find your feet. I think he'll excel more against a top opponent than he would against a lower table opponent.

Also I CBA to find the clips but there are already 2, maybe even 3 huge chances he has created this season that the attacker has missed (excluding corners - as he's landed a few right on a big CB head). If those had been scored, no one would be scrutinising him. This is mad as he has no control over whether Mo turns up with his shooting boots on.

Would I have liked him to have scored 3 goals by now - yeah of course. But for me his performances are improving and he IS making chances for us but so far other players haven't scored them.

I might be forgetting but the only really big chance he's created that's been missed is the one Salah hit the post from against Atleti.

It is early but it is concerning. If Elliot would have been given this many minutes then i reckon he'd have better stats. But it's all about the ceiling isn't it. Apparently this lad doesn't have one.

In other news. Ekitike needs two more goals to equal the donkey's total from last season.

We want him to work too much

Reality is

Hes too weak, too slow

This is where Prem league proven is so important

We gambled, we lost, it happens

That's an interesting comparison.
I agree, think Elliott would have at least gotten an assist.
However, I've seen him play for Villa. He's been uninspiring to say the least...

They all have though. Harvey's had the misfortune to land there when they've hit a bad patch. I wouldn't be judging him (or them) just yet.
True, they don't really play to his strengths and he's still figuring out his role in the team.
He barely gets to touch the ball when Rogers, the Scottish caveman and Tillerman are their main men.
