Its still better than selecting all the big names regardless of form, injury and their ability to perform well as a team. Because in the last 15 or 20 years there have been times when England team had many players that would be worthy world champions on form.
Germany do well in big tournaments because they always pick players who are on form, regardless of past achievements. Also they don't have clueless managers who say things like..."We must adopt English mentality".

I think some of the stuff Southgate has been saying has been really refreshing.
I don't really trust in him to revolutionize the national team (my expectations are zero) but saying these things publically and dropping the likes of Rooney is a big step in the right direction.

Whilst true, you also look at the German players and their whole squad across the board is better. Arguably because they've managed to cherry pick from some polish/Austrian players in the past too

It took the arse of a commentator less than 45 seconds to mention 1966. I set out wishing England well and it's dashed in under a minute.
What was all that nonsense before the game kicked off about how the events in London will have affected the England players? Why should it? As sad as it is it wouldn't affect me going to work so why would England players be impacted mentally? Crock of shite.
