Florian and the (Slot) Machine

So, what do we define as “success” and therefore not a disappointment for Wirtz?

Is 15 goal involvements a good starting point to say “successful”?

Would 20 goal involvements in the league be the point where he starts to hit “good”?

25 GI where he starts to become exceptional and over 30 a world class generational “we got him cheap” player?

Would less than 10 be an absolute disappointment?

For context, de Bruyne sat in the 15-25 GI range consistently when he didn’t miss have the season with injury and before he started to drop off in the final few years?

What if he starts most games and we win the league and the CL but he only gets 6 assists and 3 goals?

League minutes?

251 minutes
Fine, which one of our starters has played badly or been anonymous in all four of the first games?

You can say Salah...still got two goals and an assist.
Kerkez was good against Arsenal.
Macca played well against Bournemouth and he's had injuries.
Even Ekitike who is new to the league has two goals.

All I am saying is that it doesn't matter. He's a young new signing in a new country, new team mates, and is coming into the best league in the world.

He plays in a position where it's reasonable to expect that he may need time to adapt.

I'm not saying that it's certain he will end up proving to be worth his price tag.

I'm saying that it's stupid to judge him this early.

During preseason both Wirtz and Salah were clicking, why has it changed now?
Responsibility lies with Slot to get it right.
I refuse to be worried as i believe we will get stronger as the season progresses

Some people were questioning the need for Isak after two games 'cos Hugo Boss looked unstoppable.

I love Ekitekkers, but that was just as ridiculous as being concerned about Flo this early.

This discussion is doing my head in.

Fan A: This turd smells.
Fan B: It's gonna stop smelling soon.
Fan A: Maybe, but it's fucking reeks right now.
Fan B: Listen, its part of the process. It's just fresh.
Fan A: It's been 4 hours and I'm about to pass out.
Fan B: Give it time, you'll adapt.
Fan A: OK, can we at least move it out of the way?
Fan B: Nah, we should actually move closer
Fan A: What?!

...and so on

I don't get the big deal here - yes it's super early days but also yes, he's been underwhelming so far. Where is the controversy?

It didn't look like a straightforward signing from the get go but was happy to be swept up with the hype.

He'll get time and patience but yeah there is pressure due to the price tag and hype... that's the game.

Ultimately the hope - putting aside numbers - is David Silva / Kevin De Bruyne levels of influence. By all accounts he's got the talent so transition to PL shouldn't be a problem. It's up to the coaching team to get the best out of everyone.
