Rodrygo Goes to Popworld

Younger, pacier, more inconsistent version of Diaz. Ceiling is higher than Diaz. But I wouldn’t replace Diaz this season as we will have too much churn.

More inconsistent? Fucking hell that's terrifying

At this point. If he settles and develops, potential is sky high. My preference would be to use the Nunez money on Rodrygo and play four out of Salah, Wirtz, Diaz , Gakpo, and Rodrygo - PSG style. The striker market is way overpriced and spend whatever money we save on defense.

He's in and out the side and gets shunted around because he's adaptable, so it's not all his fault. Madrid decided long ago that Vini and Mbappe are essentially untouchable, so he seldom gets the run of games like Diaz.

I'm all for this if we can offload Diaz for a solid fee.

Rodrygo is 23 - best position is on the left (so we have like for like replacement).

Can do a job at CF - and also can play on the right (which this season will be important with Salah off to AFCON), with Frimpong another option here.

Can also play at 10.

Covers so many bases - it's a no brainer if we sell Diaz.

Not sure what Arsenal were thinking - they have been linked to him quiet heavily but opted to spend 50m on Madueke who can really only play down the right side.

I think it definitely is the right time to sell Diaz in terms of his value, and we needed to overhaul our attack, not for now, but for the future. We need one of our attack to be much better than they are, and with the exception of gakpo, there was no evidence that anyone had that much higher a ceiling and the big names are all getting worse.

I don't get what the sell is here for Rodrygo though. Come here and do bits for us, then we will either offload you or gakpo in a couple years in much the same way? Isn't he already on a team where he has this sort of less established role?

Ive been convinced we were going to sell Diaz all year. If you are a winger playing for Liverpool and you get played as a 9 you may as well start packing, because we think you've lost a step and we know you are just good enough to do a job elsewhere. It's mane all over again.

I'm less convinced with the quality available to us for replacements. I don't see many players who are better than Diaz out there, and I'm underwhelmed in general with all the forwards we are linked to, especially at the prices.

We had better not sell konate though. We've done a lot, all at once. The continuity isn't that convincing, and we absolutely should keep it through the spine.

The right time to sell, if that’s what we want is next summer, when Wirtz has settled in and Gakpo has signed an extension… we’ll still get a decent amount with one year left.

Then the following year we replace Salah while having a settled forward line.

Just change it to Rodrygo Goes to.....?

Fwiw. I rate Diaz and Gakpo higher than him. I know he can cover Salah too, but so can Diaz.

If he's versatile enough to play anywhere across the front 4, then it's sensible. It saves us buying other players.

Ekitike/isak, rodrygo and guehi and we're ideally done for the year

But he can't even break into the Madrid team. He was being dropped by Ancelotti before Xabi banished him.

I certainly wouldn't want to be paying €80m+ for him.

But (at worst) he's a more than capable backup. At best he's as good as Diaz but can also play at the 9, 10 qne replace Salah for afcon. Whilst being 4 years younger. For an similar fee (or not too dissimilar) as we get for Diaz, then it makes a lot of sense

Big year for gakpo if Diaz leaves and this guy comes in.

He scored enough, but we need him to stop doing the disappearing act because he was nowhere near as important as Diaz was, and far less influential when not scoring.
