Isakly what we need

I think the recruitment team and Slot have earned our trust in all honesty. Just look at the transfer window so far, it’s 10/10.
We’ve got a clear transfer strategy and are building a young world class squad.
It’s been planned for months and most likely since Hughes started last summer.

We’ll sign a CB and most likely a winger in addition to Isak.

I think Ekitike is the Diaz and Jota replacement.

Isak will be the CF. Bye bye ponytail moron.
I'm pretty sure Wirtz is, not so much in a like for like positional sense, although he'll start out left plenty imo, but as in his ability to pick up the ball and drive and dribble past players which was Diaz's greatest strength, and one I think we've all undervalued.

Also we have to remember we've had our hand forced somewhat by the awful awful situation with Diogo, I think this contributes to the feeling that we're signing one player too many. I don't think we'd look at both Ekitike and Isak if we hadn't lost him, and in the same way Jota was brilliant off the left, or up top, I expect Ekitike to fill the same role.

Diaz offered a great ability to make runs in behind, Gakpo doesn’t really do this.

The worry for me is also that we added two attacking fullbacks but no additional bodies who would allow them to attack freely.

Anyway if we add more defensive depth then i think an attacking roster of Isak Mo Gakpo Ekitike Wirtz Szob is elite, with Rio or Doak possibly around to get late sub minutes too

I’m getting Caicedo vibes over Isak. Not saying he wouldn’t be a superb signing, but instead of signing Caicedo we signed Macca Szobo and Gravy.

I think we could do the same at CB and transform our team for the long term.

I have this feeling our central defence will drop off this season with Virg a year older and no true CBs to manage the load.
This all hinges on Guehi and we've shown our hand (selling Quansah and with Gomez injured yet again) and Palace will now be rubbing their hands. We'll end up paying the £50m sooner rather than later just because we must.

Nah I don't believe that. No way we'd have been that hasty.

All I can think is we think we need 2 strikers and that Ekitike can do a reasonable job on the left. Or maybe the alternative is too scary to think about.
I agree with this. If Diaz going was always the plan then buying Ekitike only makes sense if we can play him on the left as well as backup to Isak (if we get him).

As I mentioned elsewhere I am surprised at his pace and he definitely has the tricks, so could even be an improvement on Diaz at LW, whilst being our CF if we don't get Isak.

What's wrong with you? @Beamrider is already getting palpations at the massive spend, you want to turn it into a heart attack?
We don't need any more wingers. Once we get Isak and Guehi, its all about selling and then seeing if @Beamrider blood pressure has gone down

I would be shocked if he chose United - no European football at all and clearly a project for the next 5 years, at least.

I think so too.
Not sure I fully get it but then if we were all in on the data scientists post Klopp leaving then why suddenly would we not trust in them?
Also, the thing about replacing Diaz is not a big thing for me, he didn't primarily play there as choice last season and if Gakpo was fit and able then he wouldn't have played there by choice end of last season. We believe we can do better I guess.

But surely Newcastle, with Saudi backers, can match anything United put on the table? Sesko isn't going to be on £250-300k
How else are you going to get someone of that standard to sign for you? All they have in Newcastle is shit loads of Greggs.

Apparently he prefers Man u.

As much as united are in the shit, Newcastle and Eddie Howe do not have that pull.

People are really deluded if they think Newcastle is a bigger draw than Utd. It's United. They might be shit right now but they're a mega club. And it's not like Newcastle are challenging for titles or anything. Almost everyone is gonna prefer probably not qualifying for the CL with Utd to probably not qualifying for it with Newcastle.

Not stressed. Isak will have injuries so there's ample game time, we've got a few players who can play LW, if we buy Isak and a centre half its been a class Summer, it'll take time to bed in though.

I mean, Vidic could have been talking about Newcastle....

"In England, they say that Manchester is the city of rain. Its main attraction is considered to be the timetable at the railway station, where trains leave for other, less rainy cities."
Jokes aside, I was having this discussion in a WhatsApp group. Why would a young player want to go to Northumberland? I mean as a middle aged man I can see the attraction of the scenery and walks. As a 20 something in Newcastle there’s only booze and Greggs. Neither of which are good for your career.

At least us in the North West have a couple of cities but we’re 2 1/2 hours from London by train and have two airports that can take you anywhere in the world on any given day. That’s a big attraction.
