I don't think there's much chance at all that he switches to three at the back.
Imo he'd play Hoever alongside VVD first.
Switching the formation that dramatically means you may destabilise the entire side in the process, which is a greater risk than playing the youngster.
You also need to remember that we train extensively & rigidly on zones, who is going to be where & when. Its not impossible to switch it up, obv, but I think he'd want to have them training & drilling it constantly, so unless he knows for sure who will & won't be available in the next day or two for this match, then I can't see it.

Physio has Gomez now back to 4th Feb. (was 30th Jan a few days ago) so maybe he won't be ready. They have Lovren, TAA, Gini all fit and back.
Can't find anything on Fabs so I'm not sure where all this .. he'll be out for a bit .. is coming from.

I think a person with a brain would play Matip ahead of Lovren
He’s been largely good & reliable the past 18 months but we saw Joel get the nod as cover for Joe suggesting his place as 3rd choice. He’s passing a useful addition to the team.

No, when we got him he was supposed to be no2. He’s been injured a lot and has been far from convincing when playing for the most part. Pre VVD he was just as unreliable as Lovren except Lovren had the ability to put in a great performance once in a while.
VVD has made everyone look better but with his contract up soon I wouldn’t renew it.
His heading is poor, he’s weak and isn’t quick.
I expected a lot more.
Matip is made of spaghetti. Far too fragile for a CB. And how the fuck can't a big lad like him actually head the ball. Decent with the ball, but terrifying when he tries to defend.
