Alisson & Fabinho unable to play, Jota, Thiago, Jones & Trent are doubts. We could do with one or more of these being available! Team below assumes all are out, has us down to bare bones but at least none of these six are serious injuries but it might make for an interesting midfield. Seriously hoping we get Trent & Thiago back into this team.

Matip played around 50 games as a DM back in Germany – maybe he can shake off the rust and show other midfielders how it's done, he seems to be eager to get forward these days anyway. The one quality that's a must-have for #6 in our system is being able to win the ball cleanly and consistently and I honestly think Matip is the closest player to Fabinho in that regard. He can also help out Konate playing in front on him.

Lots of good news coming up then - our first XI will be strong enough to win, hopefully we catch Ranieri unprepared, ideally having missed the chance to see most of his players due to the international break.

I read that Ali & Fabs are going straight to Madrid for the midweek game to avoid requirements to quarantine on arrival in the UK or something to that effect. We should have enough to get through this one.

I don't anticipate too much of a new manager bounce. Watford have a new one every 4 months and they've all been away on international; break, so there's only so much Ranieri can do before our game.
