Time to really think about this one. A few players are still 50/50 but I expect that Trent and Gini will start.

-------------Alisson------------
Trent---Matip--VVD---Robbo
----------Gini---Fabs------------
--------------Shaq----------------
Salah-----Firmino-----Mane

I think our replacements, even if clearly not 100% suited or in good for to this line up would be

Trent <--> Milner
Gini <--> Keita
Shaq <--> Lallana

Brooks & Wilson our for Bournemouth.

Robbo & Mane vs Clyne
VVD vs Solanke

The date given is the expected return date.

BOURNEMOUTH
Brooks and Wilson : 23rd Feb.
Francis & Cook : No Return Date.

-------------Alisson------------
Trent---Matip--VVD---Robbo
----------Hendo---Fabs------------
----------------Gini----------------
Salah-----Firmino-----Mane

Keita to replace Hendo/Gini if either not fit, and to play at the head of the midfield (though knowing Klopp it could be Milner/Hendo/Gini which is a clear reversal to a trio lacking in creativity, fine if our forwards are in top form - but they aren't). Camacho to play LB if TAA not fit.

Hopefully thats the team.

Clyne cant play against the club he's loaned out from. 🙂

Shaqiri has looked far more influential playing as an impact sub than he has when he's started.

Keita has been below par but it's a home game and he is only going to get better with playing time . I'd stick him Infront of Gini of fab with the the instructions to overlap firmino / Salah the way shaqiri and ox and whoever does , keita has strength and enough pace on the ball to do that , we've missed it In the past few games , Leicester and west ham were both so compact off the ball , we desperately need someone to make space for the front three.

Whatever system and whoever starts will be an improvement of a midfield consisting of shaqiri keita and lallana.

5-1 keita hattrick a goal of season contender from bobby 'due a decent performance' firmino

I prefer the idea of Shaqiri being an impact player from the start (e.g. Southampton, Arsenal and others) given our inability to find some rhythm at present but obv see the benefits of him being an impact player if we think it will be a tight game going into the last 25 mins.

Matip needs to be told that his 'run out of defence with the ball, get a nose bleed, pass the ball and run back anxiously' routine is (1) incredibly predictable and practically begging to be exploited ruthlessly by opponents, like lions chasing a stray wildebeest, and (2) usually unproductive.

It's weird, because that kind of a run from a defender screams confidence...but they way he runs with it looks like he's terrified. Like private pike has stumbled and stammered and actually found his way to the front lines

Agreed, every touch he takes on those runs has the illusion of being 1 yard further than he meant it and he chases it as if it will be his last!

Yep, he isn't closed down on purpose too I bet. Teams are allowing him receive the ball knowing he isn't going to hurt them. He like to try zip a forward pass but we aren't getting much joy from it.

Agree. Mind you it doesn't help when he passes to Firmino, continues his run for a return ball, and ends up looking over his shoulder as the opposing CB disappears into the distance.

I actually like his darts forward 20/30 yards the end product just needs halving In power so it doesn't bounce off the forwards boot

Nah. I liked it the first couple of times, then it became bit only predictable, but maddeningly obvious that he had no idea what he was doing & gave it back to them every time, & then, doesn't have the pace to get back & defend after he's lost it.

He's an utter liability when he does it.

People slag Lovren off for having an occasional mistake in him, but he's miles better than matip in every way.

I spent a couple of games thinking he might batter one into the top corner à la Agger, but soon realised that was not to be.

The key decision for Klopp in this game is the choice of a playmaker. Shaqiri was our most effective playmaker for most of the season, but he's done next to nothing for us in the last few games. Keita started 3 games in a row and has some good patches of play to potentially build on – but can Klopp trust him to be consistent? There is also Lallana and Milner who can move back to the midfield if Trent is fit enough to start.

If Shaqiri was in good form, the decision would be easy, but since he's not I don't think playing as 4-2-3-1 to accommodate him on RW is quite worth it. My preference would probably be to try a midfield trio of Fabinho (or Hendo), Keita and Milner – thus accommodating not one, but two midfield chance creators while hopefully getting enough defensively from the 3 midfielders to not be as exposed as we were against West Ham. With Trent hopefully once again providing threat and creativity from the right flank and allowing Salah to stay more central, that should give us enough attacking weapons to put Bournemouth under a lot of pressure. Let's hope this is the game where it "clicks" for Keita.

4-3-3:
-------------Alisson--------------
--------Matip----Van Dijk------
Trent-----Fabinho-----Robbo
-------Milner------Keita---------
-Mane-----Salah-----Firmino-

Subs: Mignolet, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi

For the last 20 minutes of the game, I would also prepare to play 4-2-2-2 to give us a bit more energy and pace on the counter when players on both teams are getting tired and gaps are opening up. Sub off Keita, Bobby and Milner for Gini (or Hendo), Lallana and one of Shaq or Origi to get something like this:

--------------Alisson--------------
Trent--Matip--Van Dijk--Robbo
---------Fabinho--Gini----------
Shaqiri--------------------Lallana
----------Mane-----Salah-------

Or even this:
--------------Alisson--------------
Trent--Matip--Van Dijk--Robbo
---------Fabinho--Hendo----------
Salah------------------------Lallana
----------Mane-----Origi-----------

The question of who takes the attacking role in midfield is probably the one thats caused most head scratching this season.

It was assumed that Keita would fill that role when we bought him but hes struggled for form and fitness, hes mostly not been asked to play there and his confidence seems to be pretty low. Lallana has barely been fit at all and when he has hes looked well short of match sharpness while seemingly having lost whatever modicum of pace he once had. Shaquri who is the other option seems to be a very hot and cold player and most of his best performances have come from the subs bench.

Id be inclined to go with Keita if Gini and Fabinho are anchoring midfield. We need more from the front 3 in terms of movement, Firmino in particular needs to dovetail with whoever fills the AM role, no point in a midfielder carrying the ball forward into the final third if there are no runners.
